My Heart's Eyes

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,
Ephesians 1:18

I love the wording in this verse (that I jotted down last summer) and just happened on this photo while browsing the "heart" photos in the Creative Commons on Flickr.  The photographer obviously used photoshop but I can't read Spanish so I'm not sure.  I HAD to use it to illustrate this scripture.
I believe The Message ((MSG) Copyright © 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson) has the best interpretation of this verse as restated here in context.

That’s why, when I heard of the solid trust you have in the Master Jesus and your outpouring of love to all the followers of Jesus, I couldn’t stop thanking God for you—every time I prayed, I’d think of you and give thanks. But I do more than thank. I ask—ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory—to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for his followers, oh, the utter extravagance of his work in us who trust him—endless energy, boundless strength.
Ephesians 1:15-19

We can live without many of our organs or parts of our body but we cannot live without a heart.  Without it we die.  We consider the heart as the seat of our emotions and affections, thus the use of heart-shaped candy boxes and cards, etc. on Valentine's Day.  However, I think that the scribes of God's word considered the word "heart" to be our intellect, our ability to reason--thus, "the eyes of the heart."
