Quiet Saturday's Creations

Look closely at the bottom photo, flower on the left, and you'll see that I stamped this strip to make this flower.  The stamping is very light and I like it.  It's just muslin and I've seen others doing this before and have always wanted to since seeing how lovely the strips are.  I tea-dyed the tan one and it matched the printing perfectly.  The other headband flowers are made of difffernet lace.  Seems the minute I hit the door (and went to my computer), I was ready to create.  My husband is doing very well mending from his radiation ordeal but he sleeps a lot--much healing to be done.  I took advantage of the naptimes and created.  Handcrafting is such therapy for me.  Seems my "wounds" were healed during his naps, too.

Home and Doing Great

My husband came home today and is feeling very well.  He has some pain, of course, but what he needs is uninterupted rest (you'll know what I mean if you've ever stayed in a hospital for any length of time.)  The prayers were felt and thank you.

Prayer Appreciated

Please, pray for my husband as he goes into the hospital tomorrow for a series of radiation treatments for prostate cancer.  The procedure will not be as difficult for him as the immobility necessary for the three-day stay.  You might pray for me and my son and our church family as we provide "entertainment" as he waits.  The first treatment is Wed. afternoon about 2:00, second is Thurs. morning around 10:00, third is Thurs. afternoon around 2:00 and fourth is Fri. morning about 10:00.  We're hopeful that this will irradicate all the cancer cells and that he will not have to have external radiation as well.  Thank you for praying.

I have kept my head above water by creating and the photos above show what I've been doing the past weekend and yesterday.  The black and pink goes to a friend who commissioned it for her daughter and the white and black goes to the shop.  Hope your week goes well.

From Stained to Cute

I bought this t shirt for $1.74 at Goodwill the other day--the same brand as I've been buying for $6.00.  There were oil stains on the sleeves but that didn't stop me.  I three-quartered the sleeves, ruffled them by zig-zagging, cut the unstained portions of the remnants into strips and made little rolled flowers.  This one's for me. Yeah!

Many More Roses

Yep, I've been busy this week.  I'm trying to fill the shop again--now if someone would just SHOP.  I've sold a few things this month but it's been a slow one.  The weather has been super bad with lots of snow and people are too busy to stop to shop.  Though we do live in central Illinois, mid-winter can get be a bit daunting, even to the stalwarts.
I am seeing colateral sales, though.  I posted these pictures in an album on my facebook page and a friend from a Yahoo art group requested a headband similar to the fluffy ones in the last photo.  I think we have everything in order except the headband itself and I'm off to locate it this morning--in the new 2 inches of snow we got last night.  Ho-hum.  Snow, schmo, here we go, out, out, out in the snow.  Yes, I've read the "Snow" book a zillion times--still love it.  I guess the word, "schmo" is not in that book but it works.

These beauties are at Relics, at little shop close to the river.  It's very eclectic and unusual and I always find antique goodies there.  They combine the old with the new, as I have done with these refashioned fabrics and buttons.  All my fabrics are rescued from uncertain doom and put back into use in a beautiful way.  I love making lovely things from throw-aways!

New ReFashioned T Shirt Design

I bought a t shirt, three-quartered the sleeves and ruffle-stitched them, made strips from the remaining remnants of the sleeves, then stitched them to the neckline.  There you have it.  The shirt is actually a little more mauve than the photo---just something different for a change.  You can find it for sale at S'More Couture.

Another Crocheted Necklace

This one was crocheted for a friend who gave it to her prayer partner.  My friend and I were in college together and I put a post about what I was doing, she saw my blog and ordered a necklace.  I got the details on colors, etc and Voile!  here it is.  I love doing commissions.
We're having a craft day at church Saturday.  Anyone interested is invited to come.  We're going to share our skills and one of the things in which people have been interested at church is making a necklace like this.  I got beads ready yesterday and have lots of thread and some crochet hooks.  Here we go.
The scripture base for this necklace follows:
Philippians 4:6-7
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

A Shirt For My Daughter

I finished this shirt for my daughter and sent it last week.  Hope she likes it, though I really think she'd prefer wearing just the plain tshirt--oh, well.  Sometimes the appliques don't lie like I want--so I added little veins in the leaves on this one.  I think it's pretty cute.  This may turn out to be a walking advertisement since she has a marriage-related friend who's purchased one of my decorated shirts in the past.  One can hope.

Shirts and Leggings

These shirts and leggings go to my daughter, daughter-in-law and grandaughter--all belated Christmas gifts.  Some of the layered petals tend to pop up so I've veined the ones on the brown shirts and I like the look.  I'm on to a commissioned necklace now.  Have a great day.

Catch-Up Week

Last week was futile--creativity-wise--because of illness and an unexpected trip.  This week I've been doing all the things I meant to do last week--and more.  I HAVE been creating this week, as you see.  I'm experimenting with a more efficient way to make rolled roses and here are the results.  We'll see if they are durable--hope, hope--because it really does save time.  I'm hoping to see the other shop owner this week to see if she and I can do business--another hope, hope.

Reconstructed T Shirt and Ruffled Stretchy Pants

I told my "girls" that I would decorate t shirts and pants for them.  The t shirt goes to my oldest's son's wife and the pants are for their 6-year-old daughter.  My granddaughter is a skinny-minney so I had to take in the waist and hem the pants first.  Click on the photo to see the detail on the leaves.  Some of them were a bit wonky so I veined them.  I feel like working today but because I had fever last night, I didn't go to Preschool today either.  They say one is still contagious even 24 hours after the last fever.  I should be able to go to church tonight--committee meeting and two service rehearsals.  I'll be looking forward to beddy-time later tonight but it's been fun wanting to create.  Hope the rest of the week is good for all of you.  No snow so far.

Christmas Gifts to Teachers

Because my computer was broken  before Christmas (the plug actually fell off in pieces--go figure), I was unable to post these little gifts for the Preschool teachers.  I had purchased glittered pinecones at a yard sale--maybe 25 cents for about 20--to which I added cut-outs of public domain angels I had copied from my picture file.  I antiqued the edges, folded the bottoms of each and glued them on.  I added a little silver glitter glue to the back of the folds to blend in with the pinecone.  Simple.  Add snowmen instead and make a winter tree if you have trouble letting go of Christmas, like me.

Sharing

Our family is a sharing one and I came home with the cold and fever some of my grandchildren had last week.  It's been so long since I've been sick--and I don't like it one bit.  I had my day all planned, too.  One of my plans canceled last night and I canceled the rest today.  I did get one shirt design cut out today and that's about it.  My husband gave me a new sewing machine--very basic, at my request--and my goal for tonight it to read the manual.  Pretty drastic, if you ask me.  I even read the manual for my new phone--also basic, almost to a fault, so I guess I did get a little more accomplished than I realized.

Below are a couple more headbands I made a few weeks before Christmas.  I'm enjoying working with new colors.

Pretty Headbands

I made these a couple of weeks before Christmas but since my computer broke I had to wait until now to post them.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with these.  We'll see.

We had a great Christmas celebration with all my kids and theirs.  What fun!  I've come home to rest but I'm already booked with many things to do this week--starting Monday.

Begin cleaning my house (ugh!),
Take a friend to eat lunch and then to the doctor,
Stay with a friend who's had a stroke while her husband is out of town,
Start some new projects for my family.  I'll probably get two of these done.

Resolutions--Shmezolutions.  I'm good doing what comes to me.  Hope you have a Happy New Year.
