I'm Not In A Bubble

These are little snowflakes my granddaughter, Emma, made for me for Christmas.  I strung them on quilt thread and pinned them to my curtains.  Very cute and she did a good job, too.

That was the good news.  No, I'm not in a bubble.  I'm very much aware of what is happening in Haiti.  Am I bad for not wanting to follow the news?  Even the weather station, one of my favorites ( yes, I am a Nerd), is carrying the horrific reports of devastation and loss of lives.  All of that becomes so overwhelming to me that I can't function if I hear too much.  We will be giving money through our church to the Haitians and our church, in turn will funnel that into our State Convention and then into the National Convention.  We have Disaster Relief Crews on the way and all our money will go to them.  We're also a very mission-minded church that meets needs so I'm imagining that not far down the road, we will be sending other units of help in various ways--from construction and food to daily supplies.  Why does it take a disaster to meet the needs of the poor?  They've been poor a long time--and now--after all this--something has to be done and people respond.  God's power to them!
Matthew 25:35-40
35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Hi Sally. Thank you fro sharing your thoughts on the Haiti disaster. I too feel like you do. I don't think I can quite comprehend the amount of devastation or the number of people who have perished. It is very hard to watch the news without becoming so overwhelmed with emotion that you can't concentrate. You're so right about this country needing help long before now. As I heard the news say 80% of this country is in poverty on a good day. I can't imagine, the living nightmare they are trapped in now or how you begin to get a country like this back to some sort of normalcy. May God bless this country and comfort it's people. I hope as an American we can emphasize with their plight and come to their aid.

Have a blessed Sunday. Hugs...Tracy

P.S. What a nice gift from your granddaughter, she did a lovely job.
